Made in Newton, Iowa since 1941, Maytag Blue Cheese is hand-made in small batches using fresh milk from local dairies and cave-aged twice as long as most other blue cheeses. And yes, it was started by 2 grandsons of the founder of the Maytag appliance company, Frederick Louis Maytag. Enjoy with honey and crackers; crumble on salads, or melt onto a burger.
Taste: Creamy, slightly tangy flavor with a lemony finish; semi-sharp; pungent.
Pairings: Port, Sauternes, Gruner Veltliner; Sherry; dessert wines.
Made with raw cow's milk and vegatarian rennet.
